Anime Fall 2016 [Post Season]

After the last anime season (Summer 2016) I have done this kind of round-up of anime series what I watched. It was quite well received so I have decided to continue this work and make it again.

As last time – before I will dump here every show I watched and it finished it’s airing by the end of Anime Fall 2016 Season, I have to say, that everything below is purely subjective – even the more objective points like animation or sound quality will go hand-to-hand with my feelings and my preferences. So if you want to comment below the article because I have sh*t talked about your beloved show – please feel free to do so, but be respectful of my opinion and I will be respectful of yours. In addition I have normal day-to-day work to do, wife and other life stuff so I’m not capable of watching everything – especially if it’s sequel of something I haven’t seen before, therefore if you cannot find show you watched here it simply means that it did not sound good to me, I missed it or it is simply not my genre (e.g. there are few exceptions, but generally I do not watch shorts).

If you came here just to see the list of shows I have watched and score I gave them – the following list is the right thing for you. If you want to read synopsis of show I rated high and you haven’t hear of or few lines of my impressions – this will at least give you the idea what I will be covering:

  • Bloodivores – DROPPED
  • Bungou Stray Dogs 2nd Season – 7/10
  • Flip Flappers – DROPPED
  • Keijo!!!!!!!! – 8/10
  • Magic-Kyun! Renaissance – 5/10
  • Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku – 6/10
  • Nanbaka – 7/10
  • Nazotokine – 4/10
  • Occultic;Nine – 7/10
  • Okusama ga Seitokaichou!+! – 5/10
  • Shakunetsu no Takkyuu Musume – 7/10
  • Shuumatsu no Izetta – 7/10
  • Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru – DROPPED
  • Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari – 8/10
  • WWW.Working!! – 6/10
  • Yuri!!! on Ice – 7/10

Now without further ado, let’s dive in…

BloodivoresBloodivores (

English Title: Bloodivores, Space Time Prisoner
Episodes: 12 / 24 min. per ep.
Genres: Action. Supernatural, Vampire
Score: DROPPED (after 3 ep.)

60 years ago, a strange case of insomnia struck the population, forcing them to stay awake for more than a full week. The victims, completely sleep deprived, all went mad. To cure this illness, a new medicine was produced, but the side effects turned the patients into vampires. Humanity went to war against this new species and triumphed, but some of the vampires managed to survive. Born from a Human and a Vampire, the main character Mi Liu, “The Child of Hope,” is to represent the new hope that will connect the two species. Ringleader of a bank robbery, Mi Liu is arrested and transferred to a special prison of the National Defense Agency that monitors Vampires. Trying to break free with Anji, Mi Liu is attacked by strange monsters and he finds out that the prison location corresponds to the birthplace of Vampires, the old capital “Blue Town.” Why are Vampires trapped in Blue Town? What are those strange monsters attacking them? Our heroes must fight to solve those mysteries (Source: Emon via ANN)

The first episode of this anime was so bad, that I thought the only way it can go is up. I cannot express how wrong I have been. Second episode and third were even worse – it made no logical sense, characters were plain, uninteresting, main character was hemomancer – whatever it means, the only right place for this show was somewhere far far away from me.

Bungou Stray Dogs 2nd SeasonBungou Stray Dogs 2nd Season (

English Title: Bungo Stray Dogs 2
Episodes: 12 / 23 min. per ep.
Genres: Mystery, Seinen, Supernatural
Score: 7 / 10

Nakajima Atsushi was kicked out of his orphanage, and now he has no place to go and no food. While he is standing by a river, on the brink of starvation, he rescues a man whimsically attempting suicide. That man is Dazai Osamu, and he and his partner Kunikida are members of a very special detective agency. They have supernatural powers and deal with cases that are too dangerous for the police or the military. They’re tracking down a tiger that has appeared in the area recently, around the time Atsushi came to the area. The tiger seems to have a connection to Atsushi, and by the time the case is solved, it is clear that Atsushi’s future will involve much more of Dazai and the rest of the detectives! (Source: MangaHelpers)

I started to watch the first season, when the second was already airing, so I had it all in one package this season. Both of them were good, the best part of the second season were probably the prequel episodes about Dazai’s past, but then it returned back to normal timeline and everything continued as was left in the last episode of the first season. In the end I think they went little bit overboard with the powers and the ending suggesting another season which I will probably end up watching if it comes out.

Flip FlappersFlip Flappers (

English Title: Flip Flappers
Episodes: 13 / 23 min. per ep.
Genres: Comedy, Sci-Fi
Score: DROPPED (after 2 ep.)

Papika and Cocona hold the keys to open the door. When the two girls meet, their adventures in a different time and different overlapping dimension called “Pure Illusion” begin. Many things in Pure Illusion will stand in the girls’ way on their search for the mysterious crystal called the “Shard of Mimi,” an item that is said to grant any wish. However, when the girls find themselves in danger, the Shard of Mimi shines, and they are able to transform.

This will be probably the most controversial entry on my list here. I hear only good stuff all around about Flip Flappers, several people have it as a contender for the best show this season, but I was not able to get over the first two episodes. I would be able to get around the artstyle etc., but Cocona and Papika were so annoying that I couldn’t cope with that. Maybe – just maybe – when it will be all out and I will have free day I will marathon this show just to have a look what I missed. But it’s the same what I said about 91 Days which I dropped last season and didn’t find time or will to go back to it.

Keijo!!!!!!!!Keijo!!!!!!!! (

English Title: Keijo!!!!!!!!
Episodes: 12 / 23 min. per ep.
Genres: Ecchi, Shounen, Sports
Score: 8 / 10

Kaminashi Nozomi (17) is an exceptional gymnast. So much so that colleges with some of the best gymnastic programs are trying to recruit her. Unfortunately for them, she has other plans. Due to her family being extremely poor, money is everything to her. That’s why she wants to step into the world of “Keijo.” “Keijo” is a type of gambling sport where girls stand on a small floating platform and compete against one another. The aim is to push the other contestant off of the platform into the water, but they are only allowed to use their butt or breasts to push the others off. Will Nozomi be able to compete in the intense world of “Keijo” and bring wealth and fortune for her family? (Source: MangaHelpers)

I started watching Keijo just for the jest – it looked really funny from the PV and had a lot of nice girls and everything was about boobs and butts so why not? I was glad that the show was honest with itself. I got what I was expecting and more. By the second half of the series started I stopped caring about all the boobs and butts everywhere and took this show more like battle anime with all the ridiculous moves, flashy combos and underdogs going up and beating the best. It was entertaining and when they were without too much effort to hide it referencing other shows like Fate/Stay Night and Attack on Titan I was rolling on the floor laughing. Suggesting another season at the end of last episode – I’m all on board (or land?) for it.

Magic-Kyun! RenaissanceMagic-Kyun! Renaissance (

English Title: Magic-Kyun! Renaissance
Episodes: 13 / 23 min. per ep.
Genres: Magic, Music, Romance, School
Score: 5 / 10

A world where art becomes magic. In this world, people who can inspire passion with their Magic Arts are called Artistas, and are employed in show business. In Hoshinomori Private Magical Arts High School, where Artistas are taught, a strange new student named Kohana Aigasaki transfers into the school. Kohana is placed on the planning committee for the school’s yearly Hoshinomori Summer Festa cultural festival. She spends her romantic school life with six other boys who aim to become entertainers in the future. Each of the boys specializes in his own Arts, and aims to make Hoshi Fes a success. In addition, the boys also aim to be chosen alongside Kohana as the school’s Artista Prince and Princess, only chosen once a year. A Magic-kyun for you! A new renaissance starts here! Magic-kyun! Renaissance is a multimedia project where you can create great memories with Artistas of greatly varying personalities! (Source: Official site)

Summary of this show should be as follows: reverse harem magical school romance story full of vibrant colours. The story of this series is so predictable and leave no room for any surprises, which takes point down. If you are into reverse harem or just simply sweet stories, then you might enjoy this show, otherwise I would definitely recommend to skip it since there are far too many good shows so no need to waste time with this one.

Mahou Shoujo Ikusei KeikakuMahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku (

English Title: Magical Girl Raising Project
Episodes: 12 / 24 min. per ep.
Genres: Action, Fantasy, Supernatural, Thriller
Score: 6 / 10

A social game called The Magical Girl Raising Project allows one in tens of thousands of people to be a “magical girl” — possessing extraordinary physical capabilities and looks, as well as special magical powers that set them apart from the rest of the human race. But one day, in a district containing 16 magical girls, the administration announces that it must halve the number of magical girls to solve the problem of magical energy. At first, the 16 magical girls race to collect more “magical candy” than their competitors, but the rules quickly become twisted, and it quickly becomes a murderous battle for survival among them. (Source: ANN)

If you are looking for yet another Magical Girl show mixed with the unique spin as Mirai Nikki, then probably this show will be something to look for. I have enjoyed the first few episodes and when sh*t gone crazy – it was great. Then I started to hate the main character – she is so annoying and useless, that I wished in certain point that she was dead instead of somebody else. Anyway – if you can coop with MC-chan being who she is, then you will probably enjoy it. I was quite disappointed with the ending, but it might be as well reflection of me being not satisfied with the few last episodes.

NanbakaNanbaka (

English Title: Nanbaka
Episodes: 13 / 23 min. per ep.
Genres: Action, Comedy, Drama
Score: 7 / 10

Four men are assigned to the prison: Jūgo, a man who attempted to break out of prison and ended up extending his jail time; Uno, a man who likes to gamble with women; Rock, a man who likes to get into fights; and Nico, a man who likes anime. (Source: ANN)

So far very few people around me spoke about Nanbaka and if they spoke about it mostly I have heard only negatives. This show is super silly, dull and is sparkling, colourful and shiny for no apparent reason. That was exactly what I needed, when I came home from really frustrating day in work – I just wanted to mindlessly watch something stupid, where I didn’t need to think about it and that was exactly what Nanbaka offered to me. Maybe those types of show are mine guilty pleasure, but everybody has some of their own.

NazotokineNazotokine (

English Title: Nazotokine
Episodes: 12 / 7 min. per ep.
Genres: Game
Score: 4 / 10

Tokine Amino works as a secretary for TEN2, an advertising agency. One day while cleaning the conference room, she is surrounded in light and finds she can’t leave the room until she solves a puzzle. It seems a creature named Hacchin is a being from another dimension called Quizn. He is interested in the intellectual pleasure that happens when someone solves a puzzles or uncovers a mystery. And he has his sight set on Tokine Amino.

This show was just simply bad. First two episodes were slightly interesting, due the fact, that I had no clue, what is happening, but then the same thing happened basically five more times, every time with more ridiculous riddle and answer. After all of that I just watched it only because I wanted to know the explanation and because it was short – just 7 minutes a week. We got some big reveal in the last episode, explanation why and what happened. The score is also reflection on the ending so you probably would be able to guess what I think about it.

Occultic;NineOccultic;Nine (

English Title: Occultic;Nine
Episodes: 12 / 24 min. per ep.
Genres: Mystery, Sci-Fi
Score: 7 / 10

The “paranormal science” story follows nine idiosyncratic individuals, linked by the “Choujou Kagaku Kirikiri Basara” occult summary blog run by 17-year-old second-year high school student Yuuta Gamon. Little incongruities that occur around these nine eventually lead to a larger, unimaginable event that may alter what is considered common sense in this world. (Source: ANN)

I was seriously thinking of dropping this anime after first few episodes. From all of it I didn’t mostly like the pace the anime went with. I do not mind dialogue heavy anime, but in this show I had the feeling they wanted to pack too much into each episode. This became slightly less relevant in the later episodes, but still I stand by my point I made after third or fourth episode, that this anime would be better with the double amount of episodes. After we got conclusions and explanation in the last two / three episodes and understand what you watched for the last 9 – 10 weeks I was little bit more forgiving to this show than before. In the end it was good show, when I look at it from the overall perspective.

Okusama ga Seitokaichou!+!Okusama ga Seitokaichou!+! (

English Title: My Wife is the Student Council President!+
Episodes: 12 / 8 min. per ep.
Genres: Comedy, Ecchi, Romance, School, Shounen
Score: 5 / 10

The story begins with Izumi Hayato running to be student council president. But when a beautiful girl swings in promising the liberalization of love while flinging condoms into the audience, he ends up losing to her and becoming the vice president. At the student council meeting, the newly-elected president invites herself over to Izumi’s house, where she promptly announces she is to become Izumi’s wife thanks to an agreement—facilitated by alcohol—made between their parents when they were only 3 (Source: MAL Scanlations)

I quite enjoyed the first season of this show. It was direct, does not screw around the sex and other stuff and had uncensored version as well. But sadly for the continuation of the show, it’s probably the place where they got stuck. This second season was nothing more than few stories just to have some excuse for pervy and ecchi scenes. It was nice to look at sometimes, but that’s probably it, nothing special, nothing extra.

Shakunetsu no Takkyuu MusumeShakunetsu no Takkyuu Musume (

English Title: Scorching Ping Pong Girls
Episodes: 12 / 24 min. per ep.
Genres: Sports
Score: 7 / 10

The anime follows middle school students Koyori Tsumujikaze and Agari Kamiya as they enter the world of girls’ middle school ping pong. (Source: ANN)

I was never a huge sports fan. Most of the sports in TV bored me to death and I would rather watch something which was more action, comedy, romance or psychological oriented – in short almost anything else. This changed this season when I went on board with three sports anime – Keijo, Yuri and this one. To be honest first I was not sure if watch this anime as well, but in the end I’m glad I did. It looked dull and boring in the first few minutes of the first episode, but everything in this show drastically changes when match starts. The fierce battle, over the top angles, effects and moves – yes, in these moments it changed into Shounen battle anime and I loved it. Even if the story was not that interesting and already probably made million and one times, I still enjoyed this show and I would be able to recommend anybody.

Shuumatsu no IzettaShuumatsu no Izetta (

English Title: Izetta: The Last Witch
Episodes: 12 / 25 min. per ep.
Genres: Action, Historical, Military
Score: 7 / 10

“If I am promised to the princess, then I will fight for her sake.” In 1939 C.E., the imperialist nation of Germania invaded a neighboring country. All at once, that war spread throughout Europe, and the era was dragged into a spiral of a great war. Then, in 1940, Germania’s attack turned towards the Principality of Elystadt, a small Alpine country abundant with beautiful water and greenery. (Source: Official Website)

Izetta was great anime with moments which dragged the show down. Trying to describe horrors of war in between of the purely fanservice moments, which has nothing to do with the plot is something, which can ruin the mood and atmosphere. Mix there light romance between two main characters and you will generally get the idea. I won’t be explaining myself here too much, since you can find episodic “reviews” of this anime on my blog or some general thoughts after the last episode review (here).

Touken Ranbu: HanamaruTouken Ranbu: Hanamaru (

English Title: Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru
Episodes: 12 / 24 min. per ep.
Genres: Fantasy
Score: DROPPED (after 2 ep.)

The year is 2205. The “historical revisionists” have begun attacks on the past in their plot to change history. The Saniwa, who have been charged with protecting history, can imbue life into objects, and has the ability to bring famous historical swords to life as male warriors . Strongest among these are the Touken Danshi. The story centers around their cheerful lives. (Source: ANN, edited)

When I read the premise of this anime I was curious how it will go. From my experience if you add time travel to series it usually goes horribly wrong, but I did not have the willpower to see if this is the case for Touken Ranbu as well.  There was just one simple reason for it – I was bored. After first two episodes I lost every interest in this series and as a result I dropped it.

Udon no Kuni no Kiniro KemariUdon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari (

English Title: Poco’s Udon World
Episodes: 12 / 22 min. per ep.
Genres: Fantasy, Seinen, Slice of Life
Score: 8 / 10

Souta Tawara is a web designer working in Tokyo. When he visits his family’s Udon place in his hometown Kagawa Prefecture, he discovers a young boy. Upon confronting the boy, Souta soon learns his secret and decides to quit his job in order to take care of the boy, Poko. The daily adventures of the two slowly enfold as Poco energetically navigates his way through Kagawa, the “Udon Kingdom,” along with Souta.

After the success of Amaama to Inazuma I expected to get another seinen slice of life series which will surf on the hype wave just to disappoint the viewers with poor try to replicate what was great last season. With this in mind I didn’t expect too much from Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari. I’m really glad I was so wrong. I got attached to all main characters and every week I could not wait to watch new episode. This show was simply great and for me it’s the one which gets mine award for the Best show of the season.

English Title: WWW.Wagnaria!!
Episodes: 13 / 23 min. per ep.
Genres: Comedy, Slice of Life
Score: 6 / 10

Daisuke Higashida is a serious first-year student at Higashizaka High School. He lives a peaceful everyday life even though he is not satisfied with the family who doesn’t laugh at all and makes him tired. However, his father’s company goes bankrupt one day, and he can no longer afford allowances, cellphone bills, and commuter tickets. When his father orders him to take up a part-time job, Daisuke decides to work at a nearby family restaurant in order to avoid traveling 15 kilometers to school by bicycle.

When I’ve seen the first episode of this anime I thought – this will be one of the silly series, which will make me laugh, I will enjoy watching it every week and as soon as it will be over I will forget about it and it will leave only smile on my face. The prediction could not be more accurate. I just finished the last episode smiling and now I can forget all about it – it was fine.

Yuri!!! on IceYuri!!! on Ice (

English Title: Yuri!!! on ICE
Episodes: 12 / 23 min. per ep.
Genres: Sports
Score: 7 / 10

The show’s story revolves around Yuri Katsuki, who carried all of Japan’s hopes on his shoulders to win at the Gran Prix Finale ice skating competition, but suffered a crushing defeat. He returns home to Kyushu and half feels like he wants to retire, and half feels like he wants to continue ice skating. With those mixed feelings swirling inside him, he confines himself inside his parents house. Suddenly the five-time consecutive world championship ice skater Viktor Nikiforov appears before him, and along with him is Yuri Plisetsky, a young Russian figure skater who is already defeating his seniors. Viktor and both Yuris take up the challenge on an unprecedented Gran Prix series. (Source: ANN)

If you would ask me the second or third week of this season, what is my pick for the best show I will probably said Yuri. This show had really strong start and I was interested in most of the characters and how it will go. But as we progress to the later episodes I lost most of that involvement I had early this series. It might be the case that as we progressed the free programs started to repeat, fights between Yuri and Yuri became staple and so on. Don’t get me wrong – I had good time watching every episode, it was funny and entertaining, but it didn’t leave the same mark as the first few episodes this with the disappointing last episode which was really anticlimactic made me rethink what anime would deserve to be my pick for the best anime this season.
